Welcome to the Snowdon School Website

Working with young people since 1868

Snowdon School is a residential school for girls only, aged 12 to 17, referred by
Local Authorities, Social Work Departments, Education Services, Psychological Services,
Children’s Hearings and others from throughout Scotland and beyond. Snowdon has had
a strong presence and history in the public sector provision for young people covering
many decades of change and challenge. The school has been able to refine and define its
services over many decades of working with young people in Scotland, adapting its aims
and objectives to meet the changing challenges.

Snowdon School offers a unique environment for girls who require specialist support,
care and education. With a wealth of experience and understanding, Snowdon is able
to support girls who place themselves at risk or in moral danger, as well as offer an
integrated programme of support catering for individual educational, social, emotional and
behavioural needs.

Research indicates that girls achieve higher academic and broader outcomes when
provided with education in a single-sex environment. Furthermore, Snowdon is in a unique
position to offer the stability and security for girls that can only be offered in a single-sex
environment.

Our pupils can come from family homes, children’s homes, secure units, foster carers,
intensive support services and others, and include those who have disengaged from
mainstream schooling or present complex challenges requiring skilled and professional
assessment and treatment. Each young person has unique experiences and needs and we
aim to identify when the resources offered by Snowdon School are the best and the most
positive choice to meet a young person’s needs.

Snowdon School maintains an excellent record and reputation in working with the
most vulnerable, complex and at-risk girls and being committed to achieving ambitious

outcomes with each and every young person resident in the school. Snowdon provides
a girls-only service that aims to keep young people safe, meet specific needs as well as
encourage inclusion in the community. Our city-centre status provides a wide range of
opportunities for inclusion and the pursuit of personal interests and activities.

Working effectively and successfully with challenging and/or vulnerable girls, or girls who
offend or have special support needs, is the backbone and strength of Snowdon School.
